Restart Helps Jump-start Charge to Victory for Spencer Pigot

Milwaukee, Wis. – As a healthy group of his enthusiastic fans in the  Milwaukee Speedway grandstands cheered their approval, Rising Star Racing driver Spencer Pigot made the most of a lap 42 restart to grab the lead of the Allied Building Products Pro Mazda Oval Challenge, and the championship-leading driver never looked back as he scored his sixth win of the 2014 Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tires season.

Adding to the victory lane euphoria was the cold, hard math of the championship, as Pigot grew his championship advantage with the victory along with scoring a bonus point for leading the most laps in the 90-lap race.

“It was a great race!” said Pigot. “Scott (Hargrove) and I were flying at the beginning. I got up to the front row in the first couple of laps and from there I was just trying to make my way past Scott. I had a chance on the restart and I made the most of it. It is always good racing with Scott, we are really aggressive and it is just hard, clean racing. The Juncos guys gave me an awesome car so I can’t thank them enough as well as all of my sponsors; Mockett, Rising Star Racing, The Stutz and everyone else that helped me out.”

Fellow Rising Star Racing driver Neil Alberico finished a fighting fourth after a furious final few laps saw him experience some extremely close-quarters racing as he looked to make the most of a strong car late in the race, which ran for 90 laps after series officials shortened the race by 10 laps on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m bummed not to be on the podium because we really had the car to do it today,” said Alberico. “But I got into a battle and he wanted to go two wide all the way around and we ended up hitting wheels, so I fell back to sixth on that white flag lap but fortunately I was able to make it back to fourth. The car was really strong at the end. I tried to cool the tires as much as I could during the cautions and that helped a lot. Big thanks to the Cape Motorsports guys, the car was great at the end, but we just came up a few laps short of the podium. But now we’ll just head to California and get ready for the home race!”

The 2014 Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tires season will stage a double-header race weekend at Sonoma Raceway next weekend to close out the year.

But before heading West, there is yet more racing to come this weekend as Rising Star Racing driver Josef Newgarden will start the Verizon IndyCar Series ABC Supply 250 from fifth on the grid and will be looking for even more for his Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing team on Sunday (NBCSN broadcast 3:00 PM ET).

“It was kind of difficult out there today,” said Newgarden. “We had the cloud cover coming in and changing up the track conditions. Honestly, I think everyone is kind of chasing it here today. But the guys have done a great job. We were quick in both practices today, we are in a pretty good spot and it’s a long day tomorrow.”
