Australian driver Jake Parsons makes his debut racing in the US this weekend, joining the ultra competitive Pro Mazda series for the opening round in St Petersburg, Florida. Driving for Juncos Racing, the 21–year-old is thrilled to be joining the prestigious Mazda Road to Indy ladder system and is keen to get his season off to a fast start.

Parsons, who finished runner up in the 2015 Formula Masters China Series, comes into the first round on the back of a successful official test at Barber Motorsport.

Focusing on building confidence and feel in the car, the young Australian finished fourth in the timings and showed an impressive flair for adapting and thinking outside of the box during the two day preseason session.

“It was good to learn what the car likes and of course what it doesn’t like too. I have a much better understanding of the car now and feel ready for the challenges the St Pete street circuit will present.”

The former AsiaCup Champion has transitioned very quickly to his new surroundings, both in and out of the car, already working well with his Juncos team.

He explained, “It’s awesome to be part of a great team, with such a strong record in the Mazda Road To Indy series’ over recent years.”

Looking ahead to the weekend’s opening races, Parsons feels confident and excited, eager to get out on track now.

“I wasn’t shocked by anything during the course of the track walk. Normally I take lots of notes, but today I only had a few, which shows how much preparation work we have done," he added.

Parsons finished an outstanding fourth in opening practice and sixth in the second practice session in Friday action at St Petersburg.

The opening rounds of the Pro Mazda series take place on 11th-13th at St Petersburg, Florida.
