Juncos Weekend StP 2019

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Juncos Racing claimed two podium finishes in the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Rookie Rasmus Lindh took second, while teammate Sting Ray Robb finished third in the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Presented by Allied Building Products.

The 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Championship kicked off Thursday March 7th with one practice session, followed by qualifying for Round 1 on 1.8 mile, 14-turn street course located in downtown St. Petersburg. Juncos Racing’s Lindh (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Robb (Payette, Idaho) came out strong finishing second and third in practice. The Juncos line-up carried the strong momentum into qualifying later that afternoon with Lindh qualifying second and Robb taking the fourth starting position.

The following day the official start to the race season began with Round 1. Lindh, who started second in the No. 10 Chicago Pneumatic/PWR Junior Team/SKF car had a strong start to take the lead on the first lap. Robb started fourth in the No. 2 Go Out Local/Big Idaho PotatoTruck/OMP/Intervention.com battled his way to the third position and would maintain his position for the remainder of the 25 lap race to pick a podium finish. Lindh went on to lead the first 15 laps but lost the lead and would have to settle for second.

The final day began with qualifying for Round 2. A very tight battle among the highly competitive field kept times extremely close. Robb took the third starting position followed by Lindh in the fifth starting position.

The weekend concluded with Round 2 under warm, sunny conditions. Round 2 did not see as much passing as the day before and went caution free for the entire 25 lap race. Lindh narrowly missed the podium, taking fourth while teammate Robb took fifth.

Lindh now sits second in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

“The weekend started off pretty well for us qualifying second for the first race,” said Lindh. “We did everything we could maximize our race car to get the pole, but the times were very close. We took the lead on the first lap and lead a lot of the race; however we lost the lead with less than 10 laps to go. Finishing second though was a great start to the championship. We started of the final day with qualifying for Round 2 and qualified fourth which wasn’t the result we were hoping for. Round 2 was not my best race as I was back in the sixth position and was able to drive up to fourth. Overall, I am happy with our results this weekend as we now sit second in the championship. I want to thank my sponsors Chicago Pneumatic, PWR Junior Team and SKF for their support.”

Robb currently stands in fourth in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

“This weekend went pretty well for us at St. Pete,” said Robb. “We started off running some great laps in practice and took that into the first race. I finished third in Round 1, just behind Rasmus which was a great team finish, as we both earned podiums for the team. The second qualifying session we were close to the pole but laid down a lap time that was good enough for third. During Round 2 I had a damper cover come off which made it challenging during the race in high speed areas. Overall it was a good weekend, we had good points, and no DNF’s, so we will continue to work hard and prepare for Indy. Thank you to all of my sponsors, Go Out Local, Big Idaho Potato Truck, OMP, and Intervention.com.”

Team Owner Ricardo Juncos said, “I am very pleased with how we performed as a team this weekend. Having both drivers finish on the podium is a great way to start the season. Rasmus and Sting Ray are both working very well as teammates and with the crew. We have a strong group this year, so I am looking forward to successful season. There is a long break now before we get to Indianapolis, so we will work hard and continue testing.”
